This 9mm cartridge from Illinois’s Underwood is excellent for self-defense uses. Without expanding, the 90 grain monolithic bullet regularly penetrates soft tissue up to 18″ deep and leaves a larger wound cavity than a conventional jacketed hollow point.

The Xtreme Defender bullet functions according to a completely new theory. The flutes that extend outward from its tip give it the appearance of a drill bit, yet they have a significant function. Any soft tissue that comes into contact with the symmetrical grooves is aggressively scooped up, compressed, and forcibly directed outward to create a massive permanent wound cavity.
