200 Rounds of 155gr JHP .40 S&W Ammo by Hornady For Sale
Self-defense cartridges for the 40 S&W are not all made equal. Only generic jacketed hollow point bullets are used in some rounds. Although their jackets are simply copper shells with a few notches around the rims, they aren’t necessarily ineffectual. But the eXtreme Terminal Performance JHP that is used in Hornady’s Custom brand of.40 cal ammunition makes it stand out from the crowd.
Instead of a conventionally plated metal jacket, the XTP sports a drawn gilded one. In order to promote much more uniform terminal expansion, the bullet’s jacket is thick at its base and gradually gets thinner near its nose. A series of well-placed serrations purposefully weaken the XTP’s jacket, allowing it to separate evenly as the bullet finds resistance from soft tissue. To ensure that no lead is exposed, the jacket also covers the nose cavity’s rim. This makes semi-automatic feeding easier and protects the bullet from damage that may have reduced its capacity to create wide and harmful terminal expansion.
The XTP is a very accurate bullet, making it a popular choice for match shooting. Its high rotational stability is due not only to its concentric jacket but also to the evenly distributed weight of its swaged lead core. The superior brass cases from Hornady, together with the matched Boxer primers and propellant charges, greatly increase the dependability of this meticulously examined ammunition.
